Title: “DAHLIA MOON”

Size: 28.75” W x 27” H (unframed)

Story:
The first time my son, Philip who was 5, asked me, “Where did I come from Mommy?” I just gulped. Not yet prepared to discuss the birds and bees, I stammered a couple of times, and then it came to me, flowers. “Well son, one beautiful night in spring your Dad and I were watching TV (ha-ha). Outside the wind blew the tall pines across the bright light of Mr. Moon. He looked just like a beautiful white dahlia, as big white clouds circled like puffs of hydrangea. The sweet scent of jasmine and verbena were in the air. Mommy was dressed like a 1940’s movie star and your Dad and I wished and wished upon a red fiery star for a perfect little boy. Come winter, there you were.” That’s the story and I’m sticking to it.

Materials:
Acrylic, fluorescent and metallic paints on heavy French watercolor paper, bathed in archival UV-resistant polymers, bordered with wooden insets wrapped with vintage Chinese silk, with outside panels of painted and gilded linen, adorned at each corner with late 1800s Tibetan coral, lapis and brass medallions from a wedding necklace, all mounted onto archival museum board.
